Help raise funds for the Guide-Dogs Association’s 70th birthday
Corporates, schools and communities can get involved with the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind for their 70th birthday campaign running for 70 days.
The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind celebrate their milestone 70th birthday with a new fundraising initiative.
Between May 9 and July 18, the aim is to raise R700 000 and there are a number of ways the community can get involved.
With the ever-increasing costs of fuel, medication and maintenance to their buildings, the association has had to dig deeper to keep the assistance dogs-in-training comfortable and healthy.
The puppy block and kennel facilities need to continue running during load-shedding. This means an increase in diesel expenses for their generator. The orientation and mobility department remains busy, as practitioners travel by car to help people with visual impairments in communities throughout the country.
Nicole Barros, regional marketing manager for the association appealed to schools, communities and anyone in between to assist the association with a number of ways they can help.
“We are asking you, your school, your colleagues and friends to come up with unique and interesting ways to raise funds for SA Guide-Dogs over the 70 days between 9 May and 18 July. You can do whatever you want to do. The possibilities are endless,” she said.
Here are a few ideas:
- Host a walk-a-thon, dance-a-thon or fun-run at your school. The association would love to join in
- Host a blindfolded activity day or walk at your school or office. The association would love to join
- Online gaming for SA Guide-Dogs
- Set a personal record by doing 70 push-ups every day for 70 days
- Host a casual day or dress-up day at your school
- Set up a collection box in your classroom or office
- Share the association’s campaign on your social media platforms and newsletters
In return, the South African Guide-Dogs Association can offer:
- A visit to your school, fundraising event or business with their assistance dogs-in-training (Only available in Western Cape and Gauteng)
