Global Pickleball sensation Alex Simon lands in Fourways
Pickleball's rapid growth in South Africa gets a boost as world-class coach Alex Simon comes to share his expertise in Paulshof.
American pickleball professional Alex Simon will conduct coaching clinics at the German Club Pickleball Club (GPC) in Paulshof from November 8–10.
Simon, who holds the distinction of being the fastest player to reach number two in the world rankings in singles, has achieved significant success in professional pickleball tournaments, earning gold, silver, and bronze medals.

With 36.5 million players in America, Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports. Here in South Africa, there are 5 000 registered players and the pay and play market is already worth R3m per month.
The popularity of the game is mushrooming. It is expected there will be 150 courts nationwide within the next 12 months, and over 1 000 within the next five years.
Pickleball, played in 30 African countries, combines tennis, table tennis, and badminton elements. It’s played on a 20-foot by 44-foot court, suitable for singles or doubles, with lightweight paddles and plastic balls, and offers a unique blend of skill and social interaction.

The game is low impact and easy to pick up, according to GPC’s Allon Rock.
He said Simon has taken his coaching sessions to Europe, South America, Asia, and now Africa, and will be holding his clinic on the four brand new courts at the German Club, which were inaugurated in July this year.
“We are so excited to have such an amazing player come and coach in South Africa,” said Rock. “His enthusiasm to come here speaks to the growing popularity of the sport in South Africa, and there is already a long list of players signed up wanting to learn from one of the world’s best.”
Although individual coaching slots are fully booked, a general introduction to the game is planned for Sunday afternoon, November 10, with limited places.
