Douglasdale community campaign aims to tackle safety concerns

In a united front for safety, local organisations joined forces in a campaign to combat crime and enhance community awareness in Fourways.

To enhance community safety, members of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) teamed up with the Douglasdale police, led by Captain Kid Lepheana, and local stakeholders for a crime awareness campaign on the corner of Uranium and Bushwillow avenues.

The initiative, which took place on April 15, aimed to tackle various pressing issues affecting the community, including hijackings, kidnappings, theft from motor vehicles, vehicle theft, common robberies, business robberies, gender-based violence, substance abuse, and to provide general safety tips to residents and visitors alike.

Participants engaged actively with motorists and pedestrians, distributing informational brochures that contained crucial safety advice. The presence of law enforcement was designed to serve as a visible deterrent to potential criminal activity while facilitating positive interactions between officers and the community.

Feedback from the community highlighted the effectiveness of such initiatives, with many expressing appreciation for the proactive measures being taken to enhance safety in the area.

The CPF public relations officer, Freda Boiles said, “Community engagement is key to fighting crime. When we stand together, we make our neighbourhoods safer for everyone.”
