4Paws reflects on a busy year of rescues and dedication

It’s been a whirlwind year for 4Paws, rescuing animals, tackling township challenges, and making a real difference every day, but it was all for what they love most.

It’s been a busy year for 4Paws, a Fourways based animal rescue.

Fieldworkers have been racing from one rescue to the next across township communities, responding to every case of illness, injury, neglect, or cruelty they encounter.

From the Lionpark Township dog rescue to countless day-to-day interventions, the team has been relentless in its mission to improve the lives of underprivileged animals.

Merinda Brits, of 4Paws, said every rescue tells its own story. “It’s difficult to single one out. Every rescue is different, and all of them reflect what we do in the townships, namely improving the quality of life for animals in need.”

Working in township communities brings unpredictable challenges. “Our team never knows what we are going to find each day. That uncertainty keeps us on our toes, but seeing animals recover and thrive makes every moment worthwhile.”

It wouldn’t be possible to do what they do without the support of volunteers, donors, and community members. “I’d like to thank all of them, from the bottom of our hearts. Their dedication makes our work possible.”

In 2026, 4Paws has ambitious plans. The organisation is hoping to secure its own premises to expand shelter capacity, and is in need of a new vehicle, as their current bakkie has clocked over 700 000 km.

“We also aim to grow our outreach and education initiatives, to ensure even more animals receive care and protection.”

Community support remains critical. Donations for vet bills, medicines, petrol, and vehicle maintenance allow 4Paws to reach more animals in need. “Every contribution makes a real difference. Together, we can continue saving lives and building safer, healthier communities for animals.”

With a dedicated team, loyal volunteers, and ongoing community support, 4Paws looks set to enter 2026 ready to continue its life-saving work across township communities.
