No water in Sunninghill after major pipe bursts in Gallo Manor

Johannesburg Water has confirmed it has no estimated time for restoration as repair work continues.

Johannesburg Water confirmed, in a notice issued to residents on April 6, that a major water outage affecting Sunninghill and surrounding areas is due to a pipe burst in Gallo Manor.

The water utility said it is repairing a 600mm burst pipe on Bowling Road. Water supply has been cut off, which has left several areas, including Sunninghill, Woodmead, parts of Paulshof, Megawatt Park, Khyber Rock, Edenburg, and areas supplied by the Midrand Depot, without water for the duration of the repairs.

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy confirmed that repair teams and contracted welders are on site, working to expose the damaged pipe. “I spoke to JW depot manager, who has confirmed that the attached notice is for a large diameter pipe in Ward 106.”

Reddy also clarified that the current outage is unrelated to planned pipe repair work on Achter Road, scheduled for April 7. However, the unplanned disruption has complicated those plans. “Owing to today’s outage, JW is reluctant to have another shutdown tomorrow, inconveniencing residents two days in a row.”

He said the final decision on whether the scheduled maintenance will proceed is expected after a management meeting.

JW said, in the notice, that there is currently no estimated time for restoration, adding that updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.
