Young footballers reflect on four days of competition at Curro Halala Cup
As the tournament reaches its final day today, the players are reflecting on an experience that has been about more than just winning matches.
For four days, young footballers from across South Africa have battled it out on the pitch, chasing goals, defending their teams, and hoping to leave their mark at the Curro Halala Cup.
The tournament brought together 24 school teams, giving the players an opportunity to test themselves against some of the country’s strongest school football talent while playing in front of professional scouts and supporters.

For Inam Cawa, from Navalsig High School, the tournament has been a memorable experience and an opportunity to compete at a higher level. “Playing against different schools and seeing the level of football here has been really exciting. I have enjoyed every moment of the tournament, and I will definitely take a lot from this experience.”
The competition has also created opportunities for players to support other teams and build connections beyond their own schools.
Callan Walker, from King’s College Bryanston, said he has enjoyed following the competition and showing his support for Century City. “It has been great watching the different teams compete and seeing the talent that is here. The tournament has been a really good experience, and I am excited to see how everything finishes today.”

Reitumetse Mampura, from Clapham High School, is confident his team can finish the tournament on a high. “We have worked hard to get to this point, and we are ready for the final. We are bringing the trophy to Mamelodi. We want to finish what we started and make our school and our community proud.”
With professional scouts watching throughout the tournament, the players have also had an opportunity to showcase their talent on a bigger stage.
Individual awards, including the Golden Boot, Golden Glove, and Player of the Tournament, will also be handed out today.
As the final whistle approaches, some will celebrate victory while others will return home with valuable lessons from the experience.
