A double dose of Soweto derby
JOBURG - Another Soweto derby, hot on the heels of the Carling Black Label Cup, is coming following the MTN 8 draw which saw the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs drawn together.
Fans of the beautiful game, especially supporters of Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, will be treated to yet another Soweto derby. Clashes between the two giants are ranked among one of the biggest football matches in the world.
The derby follows the off-season Carling Black Label Cup derby on 27 July in which Chiefs came out smoking, defeating their Soweto rivals to bag the Cup for the first time in three attempts. The Sea Robbers won the cup in its inaugural tournament of 2011 and successfully defended it the following year.
This time the two giants meet in the semi-finals of the MTN8 in a two-legged match at the FNB Stadium. The first leg is scheduled for 21 August and a few days later on the weekend, they meet in the second leg. Chiefs will be at home in the first while the second belongs to Pirates, still at the same stadium. And there has to be one winner.
The other semi-final will see Bidvest Wits hosts the rising star of the North West province, Platinum Stars. Platinum Stars will be first at home in Royal Bafokeng Stadium and the second leg at the Bidvest Stadium, the home of the students.
