#HaveYourSay: What needs to be done to protect children?

DIEPSLOOT – Check out what community members had to say and see whether or not you agree ...

During National Children’s Week, we posed the following question to some residents of the Diepsloot community …

What needs to be done to protect children in your community?

PATIENCE CHAUKE: We must educate parents and the community to put our children first, no matter what it takes, they can’t come second or last.
AMOS MACHEBELE: I would make sure that the people who rape children get a huge sentence [in court], even more than they are getting now.
SHADRACK MATHYE: I want to see the children of Diepsloot taken off the streets and brought somewhere where they will be safe.
TIMOTHY ZULU: I think we need to spend time teaching children their rights and responsibilities because doing so can change their lives.
JUDITH MTHOMBENI: We need everyone to work together to take care of children – schools and families and government – everyone needs to work together.
