The Tatami Judo Club under the guidance of sensei Basil Smith represented Central Gauteng. Out of 25 judoka that qualified to attend the tournament, Tatami won 11 individual medals, four gold, six silver and one bronze.
“The club also won nine team medals and I am extremely proud of the judoka,” said Smith. Team members hail from Beaulieu Preparatory, Bryneven Primary, Bryanston Primary, Brescia House, Fourways High and St Davids.
“We started in 2007 and I believe it is now one of the strongest clubs in Gauteng,” added Smith. Tatami trains on a Monday and Wednesday evening at Bryanston Primary School.
