CPF warns drivers to have patience

FOURWAYS - Taxi trouble has heightened in the Fourways area due to the construction of major roads.

Douglasdale Community Police Forum addressed the issue of taxis and their behaviour in the precinct.

The forum’s chairperson Jean Berdou said, “As community members will be aware, there are a number of road works in progress and this has created traffic delays and antics. Often these result in tensions between drivers, and the temptation to vent frustration comes to the fore. I would like to caution drivers to please avoid confrontation with taxis and other offending drivers as these can quickly escalate into a life threatening or crime situations.”

Yet, Berdou does not believe community members should have to put up with dangerous or inconsiderate driving. He said the community should take a photograph of the registration plate of the vehicle, note full details of the incident and report it to Douglasdale police so that they can deal with the offenders appropriately.

“It is not worth the risk of confrontation to yourself, your family, passengers or your vehicle by taking the law into your own hands,” said Berdou.

He further called on the community to use restraint and patience during the road construction phase. “We all look forward to the day when all of the road works are completed and we can enjoy the benefit of improved roads and commuter convenience.
