Taxi behaviour top of list at Jhb 10 Plus
PAULSHOF - The taxi drivers behaviour on the corner of Witkoppen and Cambridge Roads in Paulshof continues to be a problem for Metro police to contain.

This was revealed at the August Ward 93 Joburg 10 Plus meeting held at the Rivonia Recreation Club.
Since February, Fourways Review has reported on Paulshof residents’ frustration at the taxis use of the vacant land on the corner and use the area as a holding facility to repair and wash the taxis.
The taxis have also attracted hawkers on the provincial road, which is against regulations.
Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe said she recognised that the problem was that the holding facility on Witkoppen Road in Sunninghill was not equipped to hold all the taxis in the area, a problem Deppe has been working on for over a year.
She also recognised that Metro police were hounded by residents to remove the taxis, while the taxi drivers gave them abuse.
And she urged Metro police to call on Sandton police to help in policing the area. “In numbers you are stronger,” said Deppe.
Deppe also raised concern of the high level of crime in the Paulshof area and called on police to work with security companies to police the K60 road reserve in the suburb which appeared to be an entry and escape route for criminals. A Sandton police clean up last week found only four vagrants in the area.
Noise complaints from Leeuwkop prison were reported and the correct process to follow is to call the police to help lower the noise at the time, then log a complaint with city council if the noise persists so the health department can investigate and measure the disturbance to stand in court. Only ambient sound such as music can be recorded.
In Barbeque Downs, Deppe said three illegal business, one of which was the compost heap which caused distress in the community last year when it caught alight and burned for days, were prosecuted after months of court appearances.
The officials were asked to attend to these and other needs listed at the meeting.
The Joburg 10 Plus meeting follows that residents first need to log complaints with the city council, escalate them to their residents association who will raise it with the ward committee. The ward councillor will address the unattended needs at the monthly meetings.
