A more connected sector

MIDRAND - Midrand Community Policing Forum's Sector 4 manager Constable Partney Shaai is more connected to the community.

After chairperson of the sector Takis Michalakis called on the community to donate a laptop for Shaai, chairperson of Barbeque Downs Community Candice James instantly answered the call, saying Barbeque Downs Community would make the donation.

Midrand’s Altech Autopage Cellular sponsored a 3G card with airtime and Kiklo sponsored a wireless modem and laptop bag.

Michalakis explained the aim was for community members to contact the sector manager directly to relay crime information or to help escalate their cases. It is not an emergency line but gives community members an opportunity to contact the sector manager. It would also allow the manager to review crime problems at his convenience.

Michalakis said it would also ensure more communication between the sector managers and chairpersons on issues that are not strictly time-dependent.
Chairperson of Midrand Community Policing Forum Billy Rudlin expressed his and Midrand station commander Colonel Steven Moodley’s appreciation to the community for donating the equipment.

Michalakis and Rudlin agreed the initiative also developed the sector manager’s skills as Michalakis, whose business is information technology, would teach Shaai how to use the laptop and email.

The community policing forum called on community members to donate laptops and internet connections for the other three sector managers.
