Cluny Farm extends its bakery

Cluny Farm is taking its famous cookies to a whole new level by expanding its bakery.

The farm is a working farm for adults with intellectual disabilities. It is home to 54 residents who work in the dairy section, gardens and bakery.

Its cookies came about because the farm needed a sustainable source of income. The residents use old family recipes and make each and every cookie by hand.

Juanita Cronje, developmental officer for the farm said, “The fact that our residents make all the cookies gives them a sense of pride in themselves and makes them feel worthy.”

With the expansion of the bakery, Cluny Farm will also start making homemade rusks.

Cronje said, “Although the bakery gives a sustainable source of income for the farm, we greatly value donations from the public as this eases our overheads just a little bit. For the bakery we ask for donations of chairs, shelves and containers. We also appreciate donations of ingredients that can sometimes be quite expensive like Rice Crispies, sugar, syrup, margarine, cake flour and condensed milk.”
