Last stand against e-tolls
SUNNINGHILL - To mark the start of e-tolling on 3 December, Ward 93 will be staging an e-tolls protest at the Rivonia Road intersection.

At 7am tomorrow Ward members will meet to have their voice heard against paid roads .
The protest will start at Builders Warehouse and will move to the Rivonia Road intersection near the customer care centre.
Ward 93 councilor Annette Deppe urged the public to support the protest if they are against e-tolling.
The Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance said that road users needed to be aware that the buy-in for e-tolling still remains very poor and that the vast majority of road users still refuse to be e-tolled.
The tolling alliance added that should e-tolling come into effect the public had two choices in terms of their opposition: non-tagged road users could pay a higher tariff, but this would be after putting the roads agency though its paces via invoicing and sending notices for payment, thereby making it difficult for the roads agency to enforce e-tolling; or road users could refuse to pay e-tolls altogether.
In this case further notices and demands for payment would be made by the roads agency over time until finally the entity could sue for payment in court or prosecute the road user for non-payment of the toll. This may result in road users having to defend their action in court.
The DA is also set to make another stand against the system tomorrow.
DA Premier candidate for Gauteng, Mmusi Maimane, will unveil the next phase of the DA’s anti-tolling campaign at the Rand Airport.
An airplane carrying an anti-tolling banner will be launched from the airport and will fly over tolled highways across the province. This will also be flown over an anti-tolling rally in the Johannesburg CBD on Thursday.
