Witkoppen Primary gets gifts from police

FOURWAYS- Douglasdale police handed over gifts of new clothes, toys and school shoes to the pupils of Witkoppen Primary School.

The school was started in 1942 as a missionary school which catered for the sons and daughters of farm hands who worked in the area. Today it is Fourways’ only state school and mainly caters for children from underprivileged backgrounds whose parents work in an around the Fourways area.

Douglasdale police sponsored matching sets of trousers and shirts as well as feather balls to the younger pupils of the school. Warrant Officer Balan Muthan demonstrated the use of the feather ball to the pre-schoolers and explained that the toy would give them hours of fun, but was light enough to not cause damage to windows or hurt them while they were playing.

The older pupils received brand new school shoes. Many of the pupils were desperately in need of new school shoes as their old pairs were tattered, torn and too small. For some pupils these were the first school shoes they had ever owned.

Muthan said, “We chose to donate these things to Witkoppen Primary because they are an underprivileged school in the area with many of their pupils coming from informal settlements. We want to inspire the community to get together and help this school out.”
