Roads taking ages to fix
MAGALIESSIG- Roads in Fourways have bore the brunt of heavy rains which plagued Johannesburg, and residents are far from happy.

The heavy rains may have finally ceased but they have left a trail of devastation in the form of large potholes and deep ditches in the roads of Fourways.
Magaliessig resident Myrna Margo said that it was of great concern to her that motorists drive on the incorrect side of Robin Road to avoid countless potholes.
Margo referred to the article ‘Roads Agency delivers’ (Fourways Review, week ending 7 March) when she expected the roads agency to attend to the roads three days after her complaint was logged.
“I called and spoke to someone at the roads agency and even received a reference number,” she said. “They told us that we were on the list and that it [repairs to the road] would be done in a week.”
Margo also said that Troupant Road in Magaliessig was a problem, as the potholes that had been filled in a month ago had opened up during the heavy rains and were once again a hazard to motorists.
“Why can’t the potholes be filled in correctly the first time and not have to be refilled time and time again?” she asked.
Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson of the roads agency, said that the agency was aware that the roads in the Magaliessig area needed attention, and the necessary repair work has been programmed to be carried out as soon as possible.
“These roads are old and worn; the recent heavy rains caused extensive damage to these, as well as many other, roads,” she said.
Peters-Scheepers said that the roads agency is currently dealing with a backlog of outstanding potholes due to the weather, however they are working seven days a week attending to the repair work.
“We anticipate that we should have roads back to their condition prior to the heavy downpours by the end of April,” she said. “We thank the residents and road users for their patience whilst we attend to the backlog.”
