Pet owners must beware of break-ins

DOUGLASDALE - The Douglasdale police has warned residents to not leave windows and doors open for pets as it leaves the house vulnerable to break-ins.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said the police had dealt with a few cases of housebreakings in which there was no sign of forced entry. In most cases the residents of the house had left a window or sliding door open for their dogs and cats to enter and exit through.

“Leaving a window or door open for a four-legged friend often invites the attention of a two-legged robber,” he said.

Muthan advised residents to either close all windows and doors during the night or when they are not in the house, or to invest in security gates and burglar guards.
