City Power has not got this covered
FOURWAYS - Power boxes at Waterford Estate have become a safety risk for residents.
According to estate manager, Irene du Plessis, the boxes have been left unlocked, are falling apart and need to be repaired or replaced.
According to her it creates a safety hazard, especially with the number of children playing in the estate, and could lead to electricity disruptions if water gets into the wiring.
The estate’s homeowners association was grateful for the several site visits and 15 power boxes replaced by Joburg’s electricity provider, City Power. However, there was still a need for more boxes to be fixed or replaced.
“I have kept the community protected by closing these boxes with cable ties and strong red tape, as well as danger signs for residents, but we are waiting for someone to come and fix it” said Du Plessis
Spokesperson for City Power, Sol Masolo said there was a commitment from City Power to replace the electric boxes.
“Currently there is an internal process that we are following with an aim of repairing and/or replacing the damaged electric boxes,” he said.
“With regard to the faulty power boxes, an electrician will be assigned to resolve the matter by 18 June.”
