A race to see your favourite soap stars

SUNNINGHILL- KayaFM is bringing Fourways together for Mandela Day in more ways than one.

From the soap stars of Lonehill-produced 7de Laan, to the ward councillor for Sunninghill; Kaya FM DJs, and most importantly people from all over Johannesburg, it seems the second Kaya FM 67km Relay for Mandela Day is set to rock the city.

On 13 July at the Waterfall Estate Polo Fields in Sunninghill, participants will symbolically honour the Mandela Day message and pay tribute to the 67 years Nelson Mandela dedicated to the emancipation of South Africa.

As each team member runs (or walks) their 6.7km relay leg, they are paying tribute to the humanitarian work he undertook across the globe, and as each runner passes on the baton to the next, they are symbolically heeding his call to action.

But participation is more than just symbolic – all proceeds raised from the Kaya FM Relay for Mandela Day will be used in public education programmes and literacy initiatives designed to help grow learning among South Africa’s youth, a core mandate of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

This year’s relay is significant in that it takes place in South Africa’s 20th year of democracy, the first anniversary of the country’s post-Madiba legacy.

7de Laan stars and crew members have taken Madiba’s call for new hands to take over the work to heart, as they’ll be at the event.

Fans can keep a lookout for 7de Laan banners at their marquee on site 23. Other cast members will join on the day to cheer on their fellow actors.

Annette Deppe, ward councillor for Ward 93, has been asked to hand out medals for participants during the relay.

Radio personalities and many other guests are also set to entertain on the day, making it the perfect family-friendly outing.
