Horses, hounds and helping hands
FOURWAYS - Pet Empowerment in Townships (Pets) gets a hoof up from Horse Haven’s annual charity show.
Families, foodies and puppy-lovers gathered for a day in the winter sun at Horse Haven’s sixth annual charity show on 20 July. Adult equestrians showed off their skills in a number of events, while some littlies had their first experience of showjumping.
Yard manager Pia Boulter selected Pets as the recipient of this year’s fundraising, handing over 25 percent of competition entries and fees from the market stalls which added a festive air to the day. Spectators enjoyed a glass of craft beer or home-made lemonade, and had fun playing with the special guests – Pets puppies.
Pets advocates for animal rights through awareness and health programmes, with regular vaccinations, sterilisations and deworming of township dogs and cats; and educating owners about responsible pet care. Through adoption days, Pets also rehomes rescued and abandoned animals.
Community initiatives and relationship building turned a day of fun into a source of hope for the four-legged and furry.
