More food donations for Little Lambs Preschool

DIEPSLOOT - The young women of the Bear Foundation decided to give back to Little Lambs pre-school in Diepsloot Extension 5 for their 67 minutes for Mandela.

The foundation was created in 2011 by Nomzamo Gwencsa who had a vision to empower young women from townships around South Africa. Gwencsa (30), who also has an 8am to 5pm job as a sales executive for the Indaba Hotel, is currently working with girls in Diepsloot and Cosmo City to teach them leadership and responsibility as well as foster their ambitions.

For Mandela Day Gwencsa visited Little Lambs with three Grade 12 pupils of Iterele Zenzele High in Diepsloot to donate toys, clothes and groceries to the pupils as well as cook them a healthy lunch. Maria Baloyi who started the pre-school in 2005, said the school came into being because of the need for children to be cared for while their parents were away for long hours, working in areas such as Fourways, Randburg and Midrand.

Baloyi said on average children were dropped off at 5am and fetched at 7pm during in which time they were educated, cared for and fed two to three meals a day. “Many of the parents cannot afford fees so the biggest challenge in running the school is to find the money to feed the children everyday,” she said. Gwencsa explained that it was important for the girls of the foundation to give back to a school such as Little Lambs, because it ignited a sense of responsibility in them to uplift their community.

Little Lambs was fortunate enough to also be visited by Leap School of Maths and Science in association with Nedbank on Mandela Day. Little Lambs was the second of 10 pre-schools and crèche’s visited by Leap School on the day. They provided the pre-school with bags of maize meal.
