Miss Commonwealth SA finalist reaches out
FOURWAYS - Ikageng Aids Ministry received a boost from Miss Commonwealth SA finalist Chloe Roberts.
As a pageant finalist, Roberts has fulfilled her charitable duties by launching the Rands or Cans (of food) campaign, seeking to make a big difference, one small step at a time. Roberts ran two collection drives, asking people to donate a manageable amount of money, food or clothing – and now Ikageng Aids Ministry has reaped the rewards of her hard work.
Roberts was able to hand about R460 worth of food, R800 in monetary donations, and 19 bags of clothes over to the Soweto-based organisation, which currently feeds, educates and supports about 1 500 children from birth to adulthood, when Ikageng assists them with job placement and independence.
Not content with this phenomenal effort, the organisation is planning to fund tertiary education and to acquire more land for development. And, as always, there are more hungry mouths to feed – an additional 600 children remain on Ikageng’s waiting list, in need of support.
“I will definitely keep in touch with them, they’re a phenomenal charity organisation, and their place in Soweto is invaluable,” said Roberts of her post-pageant plans for involvement with Ikageng. “There’s lots of room to grow and I will try where I can to reach out.”
