Car seat campaign gets a boost
FOURWAYS - Fourways Crossing was one of the drop-off points for 94.7 and Imperial's Car Seats for Kids campaign.
Niki Cronje of Imperial, said the campaign, which started three years ago, calls on parents to donate their used car seats to help less fortunate families keep their children safe in motor vehicles. October is also Transport Month, which makes it the perfect time for the car seat collection and awareness campaign. “If we consider that approximately 250 children die a year in South Africa because they were not strapped in, it is clear that a need exists to increase education around not only strapping a child in, but also ensuring that their child is placed in the correct seat for their weight,” Cronje said.
She added that any child less than 1.5m in height should be strapped into a car seat while travelling. The campaign saw a lot of support from the Fourways community with some individuals dropping off as many as five car seats at a time. Once the seats are collected, they are sent to Wheel Well at The Brightwater Commons in Randburg where they are refurbished and repaired. On 1 November Car Seats for Kids will distribute the donated car seats to needy families at The Brightwater Commons on a first come first serve basis.
