No pop for Kyalami

KYALAMI – Following the article, Another one bites the dust, week ending 28 November, hip-hop music festival Pop Bottles will not be held at the Kyalami Sports and Function Centre on 7 December.

In previous years the hosting of the event proved to be disruptive for residents with Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe strongly opposing the festival. She had said the venue was too small for the large crowd turnout.

The application to host the event was submitted to the Johannesburg Operations Committee but was denied much to the delight of Deppe. The music festival will now be held at Nasrec Expo Centre.

“I would like to thank the City for [their] consideration in this decision, especially Shaun Harrison, in understanding the requests from residents,” said Deppe.

She added that the Kyalami centre was not zoned to hold an event of this magnitude, and said the cancellation of the festival was an example of how the community and the city council could work together.
