New year, new focus for Ward 115

FOURWAYS - Illegal dumping and law enforcement will be top of the list for Ward 115 councillor Chris Santana this year.

Santana said illegal dumping is a citywide crisis. “Many of our streets and other open spaces have become characterised by piles of rubble and rubbish and widespread littering in general which has introduced health risks to the people and brought down the reputation in Johannesburg,” Santana said. He explained that residents need visible, consistent and effective Metro police enforcement in order to halt the decay of the city. “This is a unanimous call from city councillors to the members of the Mayoral Committee,” he said. “Let’s hope we see an improvement in the new year.”

This year, Santana said he will try to get council to implement a combined police and Metro police law enforcement unit in line with the joint campaign driven by the Douglasdale police, Douglasdale community policing forum, Metro police and Fourways precinct councillors. The unit will focus on traffic and bylaw infringements.

Santana thanked the community for their support last year and said, “I hope we can achieve a great deal of good together in this year.”
