FCF audits Fourways public facilities

FOURWAYS - Future City Fourways, an aspiring city improvement district, is already on the streets of Fourways conducting an urban survey along William Nicol Drive and Witkoppen Road.

A team of urban planning students in yellow regalia from the University of Johannesburg were deployed by Andira Urban Services to statistically measure available facilities in the area.

Rashika Padarath of Andira Urban Services said, “The surveyors, who are urban planning students from the University of Johannesburg and learners from Riversands Incubation Hub, will count, assess and map different types of public infrastructure on pavements and road reserves. The infrastructure that will be counted includes streetlights, bins, manholes, missing manhole covers, signs, traffic lights, trees, potholes, broken kerbs and faded road markings.”

Padarath said the work has the potential to set a baseline and capture the number, location and condition of different structures in the public domain.

“Future City Fourways intends to have damaged infrastructure reinstated via Service Level Agreement (SLA) discussions with the City of Johannesburg. This is an essential part of ensuring that Future City Fourways’ funds are dedicated to ‘top-up’ and supplementary services rather than addressing municipal responsibilities,” said Padarath.

The surveyors will be dressed in Andira-branded yellow bibs, carry identity cards and letters that will authenticate their mission and will be accompanied by roving security vehicles provided by Andira, Specialised Area and Improvement Districts (SAID) and Fidelity Security Services.

Padarath added, “An urban survey is an important part of any application to council for a City Improvement District (CID) licence. This survey is legislated by the City Improvement District (CID) Gauteng Provincial Act No 12 of 1997.”

Padarath owns Andira and has been called a highly-qualified and seasoned urban planner.
