FCF stages its first public meeting

FOURWAYS - An aspiring city improvement district initiative, the Future City Fourways (FCF) has moved a step forward towards securing a licence from the council.

FCF held its inaugural public meeting at Indaba Hotel on 11 August. Susan Mottram of FCF said the public meeting was meant to solicit endorsements from property owners.

“What an encouraging reception Future City Fourways received from property owners and business people, including estate agents, during our first public meeting, held at Indaba Hotel on 11 August!” exclaimed Mottram.

“At the end of our indaba, which included an in-depth question and answer time, many guests gave us signed in-principle letters of support, while others took theirs away to complete and return at a later date. We had not one objection. We are building good support among the public for our application to council for a CID [City Improvement District] licence in Fourways.”

Securing written support from property owners is a key requirement for any aspiring city improvement district.

Ward 94 councillor John Mendelsohn chaired the meeting as required by the bylaws regulating the holding of public meetings.

FCF received a major boost after prominent local businessman Andre Snyman, owner of eBlockwatch gave his support to the initiative.

Mottram added that guests and FCF members bought into the FCF funding model and its three pillar business model, namely crime, grime and corporate social investment.

FCF’s business model is built around cleaning up grime and clamping down on crime within the FCF map – William Nicol Drive from Steyn City to the highway and Witkoppen Road from Douglas Drive to Main Road in Lonehill.

“FCF will not directly undertake municipal responsibilities, however, by virtue of the legislated status of a CID, FCF will be in a position to call council to account. Council services will be bound by service level agreements with the CID to deliver on its mandate to reinstate damaged road infrastructure and provide improved law enforcement,” said Mottram.
