Things we wished were April Fools jokes

With it being April Fools Day here are some things we wish weren't true.

The drought

“SA WOULD probably harvest 7.1-million tonnes of maize this year, 29% less than the 9.95-million tonnes reaped last year because of drought and late plantings, a government agency said on Wednesday.” BDlive

Maize is a staple in many households in South Africa, with the drought, prices have increased tremendously. Other issues we’re facing are water restrictions and increase to meat prices.

Food prices

“A 10 kg bag of onions costs between R70-R80 on the market floor, while in January it was R35. According to the market’s average price information, the same bag of onions should have been R47. A seven kilogram box of tomatoes now costs R75 on the market floor, whereas it was selling for R35-R40 in January.” News24

The huge hike essentially means we will be getting less produce for more money.

Petrol price

“Including the additional 30c a litre fuel levy‚ petrol is likely to see an increase of up to 83c a litre‚ with diesel up around 95c a litre‚” the AA warned.

Petrol prices like the above mentioned affects everyone. Public transport users could also possibly face price hikes and will have to rearrange their transport budget. The infographic below shows how the petrol increase will affect you:
