Douglasdale steps up
DOUGLASDALE – Verge garden at the intersection of Witkoppen Road and Douglas Drive was given a new look as residents and business owners came together for a clean-up.
The Douglasdale Business and Residents Forum (DBRF) recently hosted a volunteers’ clean-up of the verge garden at the intersection of Witkoppen Road and Douglas Drive on Saturday, 25 May.
Residents and business owners from around the area started gathering from 8.30am with the aim of making their shared public space cleaner and safer.
Chair of the forum Susan Mottram elaborated on how the clean-up went, “This was probably our best clean-up in terms of public support. We’re very grateful to all our sponsors and we also have a new sponsor. They came to join us on the day and did a marvellous job and they will clean Douglas Drive twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”

The clean-up team also managed to cut the grass at the intersection, “When we got there the grass was a metre high and it went all the way down to the petrol station but I’m really glad everyone got stuck in. We took out all the overgrown grass and now the place looks cleaner and safe.”
Mottram added that they hope clean-up and cutting of grass will minimise crime in the area, “From a crime point of view this is a big improvement it certainly makes that corner safer and there’s no way criminals can hide there now.”
