Women are coming together to support other women

CHARTWELL – It was a day for business, breakfast and female empowerment on 5 June when a number of women gathered at XIX for the Women WIth Drive Tee-Off Breakfast.

On 5 June, a group of about 20 women attended the Women With Drive Tee-Off Breakfast event, which was hosted at the XIX restaurant in Steyn City.

The event came after the recent women’s only Sixters Golf Tournament, and was an opportunity for women to network, exchange ideas on how to drive change and create dynamic futures for other women in the world of business.

“Today is an opportunity for a think tank and networking session with the women, some of whom we met through the Sixters Tournament and some of whom have never played golf before,” explained Tammy Menton, the group head of marketing and events at Steyn City, who addressed attendees on the day. “This comes after the first-ever women’s only Sixters Tournament, which we held back in April and which forms part of the Seven Percent Tribe.”

Steyn City’s 7 Percent Tribe and Sixters Tournament (a round of golf which has been shortened to six holes, allowing women to network much like men do on the golf course but less time-consuming). Both have the same aim – to uplift women in areas such as education and business, and empower women to make a mark on the world. After breakfast and a speech from Menton, the women were divided into groups to brainstorm ideas and network with each other.

“The discussion’s purpose is for women to share with us a way forward for us to help other women, and also to have a chance to network – as networking begins the process of making contacts in the business world.

“The Sixters is launching women’s golf clinics on 22 June, and long term will focus on raising funds and create a platform for women in business.”
