Business owners gather for economy tips

PAULSHOF – It was a day of learning for entrepreneurs when they gathered at the German Country Club recently to learn tips for generating income.

Entrepreneurs gathered to learn how to save money in their businesses in a difficult economy on 14 August.

The event titled ‘tips to generating income in the current South Africa economic climate’, took place at the German Country Club in Paulshof, were about 30 business owners gathered on the day. It was hosted by Pieter Scholtz, the country partner for ActionCOACH South Africa, and Brendon Saunders, a certified business coach with the same company, and was a chance to get business owners thinking about what they want for their company before focusing on how to achieve these goals.

To begin the event, Zelda Williams from Tale Spin Media and Marketing discussed public relations from a business perspective, giving the attendees some tricks and tips on how to interact with the media. After her presentation, Phil Melton from TPS Energy spoke about small changes you can make with your business (such as turning off lights and embrace eco-friendly alternatives) to save business costs.

“ActionCOACH is in about 80 countries and has about 1 000 franchises across the globe, including 52 here in South Africa,” Scholtz told the Fourways Review before the event began.

“Our primary purpose is to coach business owners to success, much like sports coaches work with athletes to reach success. We teach them the basics and then help them plan.”

Scholtz, who was in the corporate world for about 25 years himself, said a big part of this coaching involved getting business owners to really think about what they want to achieve with their company and making sure that they follow through on plans.

“Your business was established as a vehicle for you to achieve your purpose and life goals,” he explained. “So the trick is getting your business to work for you, instead of you just working for your business.”

The event took place from 9 am until 11 am.
