A self-published Diepsloot author has been honoured at the Second AfriCAN Authors Awards hosted at the end of July.
Mashudu Nemadzivhani, who lives in Diepsloot Ext 4, had his work The Road to Damascus published at the beginning of the year. A deeply thoughtful book, it hopes to inspire readers to stop making material success their only goal and instead focus on finding out their true purpose in life, hopefully helping others along the way.
After his book was mentioned in the Fourways Review back in May, another Fourways local, Anthea Thyssen-Ambrusley of the AfriCAN Child Your Time Is Now organisation invited Nemadzivhani to participate in the awards which were held at the Wanderers Club.
“I won in the Inspirational category of the AfriCAN Authors Awards,” he told the Fourways Review. “Winning this award gave me more strength to continue writing as well as encouraging others to tell their stories through writing. It also showed me that anything is possible if one works really hard and never lets go of his passion.”
Other African writers honoured during the awards were Sibusiso Vilane, the first African to climb Mount Everest and author of To The Top from Nowhere, and advocate Neville Mellville for his work Restored Greatness. Nemadzivhani thanked Thyssen-Ambrusley and the rest of her team for promoting talent from the African continent, and hoped that his success would inspire others.
“To all the youths and everyone who wants to achieve something in life, you must not allow anything to discourage you, because your passion is much more powerful than any challenge you might be facing,” he concluded.
