Dainfern College celebrates World Read Aloud Day

DAINFERN – It was books galore on 5 February when the children from Dainfern College celebrated World Read Aloud Day by reading up a storm.

On 5 February, Dainfern College celebrated World Read Aloud Day by unveiling two new playground libraries in the junior preparatory quad of the school grounds.

Learners are welcome to use the libraries before or after school and during breaks, and are encouraged to add books that they’d like to share with their friends to the collection. College principal Matthew Davies and senior preparatory principal Ray van Gass attended to cut the ribbon. Two reading sessions were also held on the day – one where the senior prep learners read to the junior prep learners, and another where the Grade 10s read to the Grade 0s.

Senior prep and Grade 10 learners chose books from the college media centre before being paired up with the youngsters for storytime. The Grade 0 and junior prep learners brought their best soft animal friends along for the day, and they found a quiet spot around the Grade 0 or junior prep quads to read.

The morning was a joyful celebration of reading and the learners are looking forward to doing it next year.
