Douglasdale CPF thankful for police service in the year

The Douglasdale Community Police Forum (CPF) shared their festive season message with the Douglasdale community.

Newly appointed chairperson of the Douglasdale CPF, Lizzy Mabena said 2020 has been an eventful year with a lot of ups and downs, and that the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic ‘presented us with new challenges and we all had to suddenly and quickly adapt’.

“Most part of the year saw us in hard lockdown regulations, which restricted movement and thus crime took a steep decline, to almost no crime being recorded during the first phase of Level 5 lockdown.

“In terms of crime patterns across the Douglasdale Policing Precinct and as crime patterns change so too, must our response evolve to meet those challenges.”

Mabena said the CPF has been extremely encouraged by the steps taken by Douglasdale Police Station with adjusting and changing their home and work environments during these times.

“They became the helping hand to the community and being instrumental during times of giving out food parcels in the informal settlements.

“Some sections of the residents within the precinct continued to raise their hands and make valuable contributions to the less fortunate to ensure no one went to bed hungry. Great thank you to residents of Farmall Association and Kya Sand Industrial Association, who donated so generously during lockdown.”

She urged residents in the precinct to get involved with any crime-fighting initiatives including the CPF structures established for communication with Douglasdale police and the community.

“I can never over-emphasise the importance of community involvement in our quest to fight crime, without your involvement we are not going to be successful as a collective.”

Mabena concluded by sending her best wishes to all those affected by Covid-19 either in sickness or financially. She also sends a message of thanks to the Douglasdale SAPS for their continued assistance in the community in keeping them safe.
