NPO Friends of Free Wildlife in search of a new home

KYALAMI – Friends of Free Wildlife, based in Kyalami are looking for their forever home as they will be moving from their current location in Maple Road at the end of August.

A Kyalami-based non-profit organisation focused on rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife is looking for new premises in the Kyalami or Glenferness area.

Friends of Free Wildlife, founded in 2015, was given notice to vacate their current rented location in Maple Road by the end of August due to the owners selling the property.

CEO of the organisation, Margi Brocklehurst said there was a high importance in staying in the area due to the reputation they have built up in the past five years.

“We also have to be located in an accessible urban environment for the sake of our community members who need us, and within easy reach of Bryanston Avian, Exotic and Small Animal Clinic, our wonderful, very supportive vets,” she said.

Brocklehurst added that even though the move was a challenge, this was now an opportunity to find their forever home in which growth as an organisation could happen. She said the hope was to also take on greater roles in rehabilitating the country’s indigenous wildlife.

“Free Wildlife intends to rent with an option to buy, with fundraising for alterations and the purchase of the property taking place concurrently with the renting of the premises.

“Once we have finalised an agreement, which will include a long-term lease providing us with the stability we need, we will be sure to inform our loyal supporters. We will also be issuing an appeal to the community, detailing how they can help, practically and financially, as we make our final move.”
