From July 16 to July 18, the Douglasdale Police Station had a number of successful operations in the area which resulted in 28 suspects being arrested.
Spokesperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said among the arrested suspects, 18 were taken in by police for contravention of the Disaster Management Act. “The suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from possession of suspected stolen firearm, armed robbery fraud, possession of cannabis, assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, and possession of dangerous weapons,” she said.
“The arrested suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.”
In the same weekend, police from different parts of the Johannesburg West sub-district, including Diepsloot, Douglasdale, Roodepoort, Linden, Honeydew and Randburg, conducted a number of operations in the area.
During these operations, another 48 suspects were arrested for a number of crimes. “The crimes ranged from rape, sexual assault, possession of live ammunition, contravention of the Disaster Management Act, assault GBH, assault common, possession of the suspected stolen property, dealing in liquor without a licence, reckless and negligent driving.
“The arrested suspects will appear in the Randburg and Roodepoort Magistrates’ Courts soon,” said the captain.
She continued to say that the arrest of the suspects is an indication that police are determined to keep the community safe.
