Local entrepreneur awarded
FOURWAYS – A local company set to educate women was awarded for their dedication to empowerment in the recent South African Heroes Awards.
The founder of a local company aimed at encouraging and empowering women won an award at the South African Heroes Awards on September 25.
Nadine Clevely of Woman’s Warehouse, based at Northlands Deco Park, was at Johannesburg Theatre to accept her award in the women empowerment category.
The awards initiative was launched in 2019 thanks to its founder, Amanda Matshaka, and aims to celebrate and acknowledge the country’s unsung heroes.
The aim of the awards is to recognise the important social and environmental contributions made by organisations and ordinary South African doing extraordinary things to uplift their communities.
Clevely said her company was established to educate, empower and uplift women from different backgrounds with the mission to empower for a lifetime. “Woman’s Warehouse has two main focuses – one is safety, and the mission to eradicate gender-based violence in South Africa. A woman dies every 10 seconds in our country, and this is just an unacceptable statistic,” she said.
“We want to teach women to be aware and help them be confident to protect themselves and fight back. We will continue to fight against the real pandemic ravaging our country.”
The second focus is intimate health and period poverty. According to Clevely, 30% of women and girls miss school or work due to being unable to afford sanitary wear.
“With Woman’s Warehouse opening its doors exactly 12 months ago, it was an honour to not only be recognised, but nominated for our efforts in women empowerment and now in victory, this is the ultimate example of grace and favour.”
