Author writes about abuse

A Fourways-based businesswoman and advocate for children’s rights’ debut book tackles issues of child abuse.
Tracy Masocha launched her first book, titled In defence of children (Prevention of child abuse), this month in Fourways.
She said the book addresses issues of child abuse, considering common types of child abuse and the effects of
child abuse. It also shares some advice with parents on how they can notice if their children have been or are abused.

Masocha explained that she suffered emotional, physical and sexual abuse at the hands of a man that was supposed to protect her. When her parents passed away while she was only 13 years old, a relative from her father’s side adopted her.
She described that adoption as an exile. “When I was 14 years old, a man that was supposed to protect and take care of me, sexually and physically abused me. What made it worse was the fact that a close family member knew about my abuse.”
She said her abuser used her as his second wife, thinking that she would give him children because his wife could not conceive. “One day I managed to escape and went to live with another relative that they did
not know.”
She recalled how the abuse made her a bitter person and affected her relationships with men. “All my relationships did not work out because of my experience with men. I had to look for professional help in order to overcome my past.”
Masocha holds a BSc (Hons) degree in creative art and design from Chinhoyi University of Technology in Zimbabwe.
