Unemployed youth get a 12-month work experience opportunity at Witkoppen Clinic
WITKOPPEN– Kahn said the programme aims to tackle unemployment in the country by placing youth with host organisations, [such as Witkoppen Clinic] where they gain meaningful work experience.
Witkoppen Clinic recently welcomed another group of local unemployed youngsters as part of the Yes for Youth internship programme at the facility.
Business development manager at Witkoppen Clinic Dagmar Kahn explained, “The programme aims to tackle unemployment in the country by placing youth with host organisations, [such as Witkoppen Clinic] where they gain meaningful work experience.”
The programme has seen young people from disadvantaged communities such as Diepsloot, Kya Sand and Cosmo City become part of the workforce in a 12-month programme and gain much-needed work experience.
Some of the newly recruited interns said they were very excited to be part of the programme and were hoping to make positive contributions to the facility.
Pretty Serame (23) from Diepsloot said she was told by a friend about the programme. “I decided to give it a try and applied. I’ve always had a dream to work in a hospital or clinic and when I heard about this opportunity I decided to grab it. I am looking forward to learning more about the health sector and gaining work experience.”
Lesego Sejamabolo (21) said she hopes the programme will help her learn more about health and safety in the workplace. “I believe that this programme will help me gain practical experience in health and safety. Next, I’m going to study health and safety with Unisa. I am looking forward to an exciting journey toward my dream career.”
