Donate your pre-loved bras to women in need
LONEHILL – Community members are given the opportunity to give their pre-loved bras away to women in need as means to also encourage people to get tested for breast cancer.
A local funeral service store has partnered with a breast cancer awareness NPO to collect and distribute pre-loved bras.
Soul Café in Broadacres collaborated with PinkDrive to be a drop-off point for community members to donate these bras for women in disadvantaged areas throughout the country.
Funeral director at Soul Café Georgie Colling said the partnership was fitting as Soul Café worked with a number of support groups and people who have to deal with grief and need counselling after losing a loved one.
“We partner with so many of the support groups like suicide, stillborn babies, cancer and more. We align ourselves with those associations since people grieve differently.
“I’ve been supporting PinkDrive for ages, and the work PinkDrive is amazing. I knew someone who used to support the October Drive so I wanted Soul Café to be drop-off point,” she said.
Marketing and events coordinator for PinkDrive Nelius du Preez said the organisation would visit a number of disadvantaged communities in Limpopo and other provinces to aid people.
“We are expecting around 500 patients we will have to attend to on the day for basic medical care. People in many rural areas have to travel long distances to get to clinics for basic healthcare.
“Something we take for granted is affording and having a bra when people in these areas cannot even afford a meal,” he said.

The bras will be distributed to patients who are having a mammogram, pap smear, ultrasound or breast examination conducted by the PinkDrive team. Du Preez said in having the bras distributed this way, would encourage people to get tested for breast cancer.
PinkDrive uses trucks with the necessary equipment to scan patients and examine community members in the areas they visit, and also refer patients to nearby clinics and hospitals for further treatment, according to Du Preez.
Colling concluded, “In order to keep the awareness going of who we are and what we do, I thought the connection with PinkDrive would really assist in the Fourways area knowing we didn’t have a drop-off point before.
“I know there are a lot of people who collect, but having a collection point would be great.”
