Three suspects appear in the Randburg Magistrate Court for possession of unlicensed firearms

Police spokesperson said the suspects aged between 21 and 32-year-old were arrested in separate operations conducted by the police in the area.

Three male suspects arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition briefly appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on April 19.

The three suspects were arrested during a police operation in Diepsloot Ext 8 on April 13.

Police spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said the suspects were aged between 21 and 32.

He said in the first incident, the police were conducting crime prevention duties when they received a tip-off from an informant about a certain house in Ext 8 where two men were suspected to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“The police proceeded to the address and on arrival, two men were allegedly found inside the house. A search was conducted leading to a recovery of a firearm loaded with ammunition. When asked as to whom the firearm belonged to, they both denied owning it. As a result, both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.”

Mathebula said in the second incident, a 32-year-old suspect was arrested in Ext 1 after an unlicensed firearm was found in his car during a stop and search operation.
