Senior Coffee Mornings resume in Lonehill

The senior residents have the opportunity to get out the house and avoid loneliness.

Dr Adele Romanis, a clinical psychologist from Lonehill, has founded an initiative that helps the elderly in our community.

The Senior Coffee Mornings aim to address the loneliness that some of the senior population face. According to Romanis, many of them become lonely and isolated after leaving the workplace. “Many of our seniors still have lots of meaningful contributions to give to our communities and societies,” said Romanis.

Romanis started the initiative in 2012 as she believed it was the responsibility of the younger generations to take care of the seniors after everything they have done for the youth.

The monthly coffee meetings had 10 people at the first meeting and eventually grew to 80 members before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. The meetings were resumed last year in October, but with approximately 25 to 30 members. “We are coming out of the dust of Covid and inviting any previous members and new members who would like to engage with other like-minded friendly people to our monthly coffee morning,” explained Romanis.

The meeting focuses on age-appropriate speakers to keep the attendees up to date with relevant and important topics and meet up on the third Wednesday of every month. The next meeting is scheduled for July 20.
