A total of eight gravel roads resurfaced in Chartwell and Farm Mall
Ward 96 councillor Rufus Maswazi says the working partnerships between the public and private sector has made a difference in service delivery and development in the communities.
Ward 96 councillor Rufus Maswazi has commended the private sector for their role in the upgrading of local gravel roads in the area.
This comes after the City of Johannesburg’s Department of Roads and Transport recently partnered with the local business community to speed up the process of resurfacing a number of gravel roads in Chartwell and Farm Mall.
Maswazi said working partnerships between public and private sector can help fast-track service delivery and development in the communities.
He said driving on local gravel roads, such as Bockock and Watercomb roads and Clendon Avenue in Farm Mall was a nightmare in the past few months because of the damage caused by summer rains.
“When I came into office last year, I made a commitment to work closely with the private sector to improve living conditions in the ward. Following a public outcry about the state of gravel roads in the area, especially Watercomb Road in Chartwell, I committed myself to escalate the matter to the Department of Roads and Transport.”
He said the MMC of Roads and Transport Funzela Ngobeni responded quickly and partnered with the local private sector in the area to have more than 10 gravel roads fixed.
“We had to bring in a Section 79 committee on transport to do an oversight inspection of these roads. The committee resolved that these roads needed to be fixed and an A Re Sebetseng project was launched to speed up the process of fixing the affected roads.”
Maswazi urged residents to report service delivery issues to his office so that he could escalate such issues.
