Founder chairperson of Ikemeleng Foundation serves his community with love
Local community activist always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to the needy
Founder chairperson of Ikemeleng Foundation Percy Malepe writes:
My name is Percy Malepe and I am the 27-year-old founder and chairperson of a Diepsloot-based non-profit organisation, Ikemeleng Foundation that helps feed thousands of needy people and holds extra classes with learners from local schools.
I was born in Limpopo and move to Diepsloot with my parents when I was 11 years old.
Before devoting myself to Ikemeleng Foundation, I served as a community activist, helping people in different ways.
I am one of those who believe that charity begins at home and am always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
When Covid-19 reached our shores in 2020 and lockdown restrictions were introduced, I couldn’t sit back and fold my arms. So together with my colleagues, I started an organisation in order to help feed those who had no food because they lost their source income.
Today our organisation is feeding more than 500 a day with the help of our donors who mostly are local businesses.
In 2021 I was named and awarded Youth Community Developer of the year by Afrika Tikkun.
I love helping those in need and help make the Diepsloot Community a better place for everyone regardless of race, tribe and nationality.
I encourage all young people to get involved in order to help make their communities a better place to live in.
