21-year-old Kya Sands Informal Settlement murder accused’s case remanded

The suspect is said to have tried to evade arrest by packing up and leaving.

According to Captain Mpho Tshetlhane of Douglasdale Police Station, a 21-year-old man appeared at the Randburg magistrate court on January 24 after he allegedly murdered a 29-year-old man at the Kya Sands informal settlement.

“It is alleged that on 20 August 2022, the deceased and the suspect were drinking at a tavern when an argument ensued between them. Suddenly there was a struggle, the suspect then pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed the deceased in the upper body. The deceased was certified dead at the scene,” Tshetlhane explained.

The suspect is said to have tried to evade arrest by leaving his area of residence, however, the tireless effort by the Douglasdale detectives led to his arrest on January 22.

The suspect’s case has been remanded for further investigation.
