Local prodigy bestowed with vice-chancellor’s Distinguished Merit Award

The young resident said the accolade serves as a reminder to her of the rewards that come from hard work, determination, and sacrifices.

Kyalami Crest resident Caitanya Moodley has been bestowed the honour of the University of Pretoria vice-chancellor’s Distinguished Merit Award.

The 18-year-old prodigy was the top matriculant at Crawford International Lonehill and in Gauteng across all Crawford International schools.

The University of Pretoria is ranked one of the world’s top academic centres.

The Distinguished Merit Award includes the opportunity to become part of the vice-chancellor’s distinguished student group which will meet the vice-chancellor and principal of the university at many unique functions this year.

Caitanya Moodley is bestowed with the University of Pretoria vice-chancellor’s Distinguished Merit Award.

“I feel immensely honoured and grateful for having been bestowed with this award. It has always been an aspiration of mine to achieve this award and I am very happy that my hard work and dedication have afforded me this honour,” said Caitanya.

“I have been invited to the welcome and leadership conference hosted by the vice-chancellor’s Distinguished Merit Award group taking place from February 7–10. I am excited to engage with other students who have previously achieved this award.”

Caitanya will study for a BSc in actuarial and financial mathematics at the university.

Although she hasn’t started with her lectures yet, she has already received two courses to complete as prerequisites for her studies.
“I am looking forward to university and I am quite excited to be studying actuarial science as it is something that I am passionate about.”

Caitanya said the accolade served as a reminder to her of the rewards that come from hard work, determination and sacrifices. “I am also grateful for the support that I have received from both my family as well as the teachers at Crawford College International Lonehill.”

Caitanya’s father Sagren was proud of her and congratulated her for displaying exemplary academic and leadership qualities.
