A tradition at HeronBridge College kicks the year off for prep learners

HeronBridge College Grade 1 learners with their parents attended a ceremony that officially welcomed the young learners to the school.

HeronBridge College Prep School learners were recently part of a special assembly that saw each of them receive a blue heart.

Every year, Grade 1 learners receive their own blue hearts during the special assembly. This is to celebrate the start of their HeronBridge prep school journey. Parents were also invited to the assembly and the morning was made extra special as each child was called onto the stage to receive their blue heart.

The Diedericks family attend the blue hearts assembly at HeronBridge College.

The head of the prep school JP Lübbe said, “These hearts are handed out as a symbol and reminder to honour the individual while celebrating the collective, and to acknowledge the qualities that HeronBridge cherishes: kindness, empathy, joy, fun, honesty, integrity and a love for one another,” he said.

Each learner’s blue heart is displayed in their classrooms and travels with them year after year. When they reach Grade 7, these hearts are framed and presented to the learners at their valediction.
Any new learners who join the school between grades 2 and 7 are also presented with their own blue hearts and welcomed to the HeronBridge College family with this special tradition.

The Davies family are all smiles at HeronBridge College’s blue hearts assembly.

“Sharing our own blue hearts with our learners is an absolute privilege and we are so happy to have another year to journey with each child as we strive to educate with heart.”
