KnitWits gear up for Local Is Lekka tour
Fourways Gardens KnitWits are hard at work putting together blankets for the big display while keeping beneficiaries warm this winter.
With the cold season on our doorsteps, KnitWits are hard at work putting together blankets for the Local Is Lekka big reveal, while keeping beneficiaries warm this winter. The Fourways Gardens KnitWits are also doing the same, hard at work giving their all just to prove that indeed Local Is Lekka.
The 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day’s Fourways Gardens ambassador, Annie Robinson Grealy, and the KnitWit community gather every second and fourth Thursday of the month to knit and crochet over a cup of tea and some cake, among the jokes, and some hot gossip.
Over the past years, the KnitWit communities all over the country would usually pack up all their blankets for an annual big reveal. But this year, the 67 Blankets team will bring eight big reveals in eight different cities across the country with the Local Is Lekka tour. In every region, 67 Blankets ambassadors and their KnitWit community will showcase all their hard work, and warm-giving hearts, and make a warm winter for the less fortunate.
“We are so excited, all these blankets and hard work will be part of the Local Is Lekka big display at Jeppe Girls High. The big thing for us is that there are beneficiaries in different homes that will get all this,” said Grealy.
This comes after the 67 Blankets launched its app which aims to make the work of the organisations easier to manage, coordinate, and allow all the parties involved to keep track of all their creations until the Local Is Lekka big reveal.
The Local Is Lekka tour comes to Johannesburg on June 3, at Jeppe High School for Girls. The 67 Blankets team touches base with eight different cities and towns while they collect and distribute locally made blankets to those in need through the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative.
