Coats and Cans charity drive right on time for the homeless

Susan Mottram is part of an organization that looks out for the homeless and needy during the winter season.

Whenever the winter season approaches, Susan Mottram has a task to do because all that she thinks about is the displaced people and how she can assist in keeping them warm.

Mottram told Fourways Review that through the annual RE/MAX Coats and Cans charity drive she can fulfill her vision and mission as she approaches various stakeholders to donate to the initiative.

The donations for displaced people.

“Every winter, an appeal is put out by RE/MAX for non-perishable foods, blankets, and clothes, which are delivered to the needy, including the homeless people, through registered charity organisations.”

She was out and about on July 9 for the RE/MAX charity drive at Kingfisher Spar in Fourways, just in time before the cold front hit Johannesburg and with the snow falling across the city on July 10.

Susan Mottram, Trevor Elliot, a local indigenous garden landscaper and tree feller who dropped off groceries for the needy, and Alex Norvall, a real estate agent in Lonehill and Pineslopes.

“This is the second year running that I have organised the event at the Kingfisher Spar. Once again, our Fourways and Douglasdale community gave generously. I love living and working in this giving community and being part of an organisation that actively contributes to the betterment of our communities in South Africa.”

Mottram said her heart was full of gratitude. “I would like to thank Dewaldt de Klerk who is the owner of Handyman Hotline for his incredible donation of R1 000 worth of groceries and Saskia Kunneke and her Douglasdale Greenpark community for their boxes and bags of items of clothing,” she thanked among others.
