Ronette Marx marks 20 years in the modelling industry

She was scouted at 14-year-old and that is how her career started.

Ronnete Marx, popularly known as Ronny was scouted at the age of 14 and from there, her career took off. By 15 she was already in Cape Town making moves and a name for herself in the industry. Being on stage for Rony is nothing new because she started doing it at 14 years old. The runway was her second home and now she celebrates her journey after 20 long years.

Over the years Marx has achieved a lot and she hopes to share the spotlight at the Midrand Prison Break Market on December 9. The 35-year-old is hosting an exhibition to celebrate her 20 years of success and to scout for models for the upcoming Opulent SA. She encourages people to take a chance because you never know until you go for it. In the spirit of celebration, Rony is encouraging attendees to bring along a small Christmas present for a grandma and grandpa. “We will be donating these gifts to the elderly. We partnered with Uzwela Foundation to find these lovely old age homes and make Christmas special for our senior citizens,” she said.

Rony explained how she loves how the world has evolved. “Beauty was changed completely. In my day you needed to be a certain size, a certain look, a certain hair colour, and so on, and that was what was considered beauty. Now we can have curved models, you can have two skin colours. We have plus-sized confident women on the covers of magazines. Beauty is diverse and I love it because now a curved girl can get on that stage and be who she is and still be the next top model,” she said.

Rony will be judging upcoming pageants, and she says she judges on a person’s uniqueness. “Most competitions I entered I did not even win. I am not looking for the perfect look. I’m not there to judge their beauty, I am there to judge them on what they can give. Beauty is so objective, so show me your uniqueness,” she added. Even though she grew up in a small town, she went international. “I think one of my biggest achievements was hosting a game show in Mumbai,” she said. With over nine million viewers around the world, she fell in love with the career even more.

Marx wishes she could pour her cup of confidence into her younger self. Having a baby in recent years did not stop her from her goals. “Some companies were very understanding, I travelled with my eight-month-old around the United States of America for two months.”
